Dr. VikasDivyakirti is one of the most respected and best teachers in India. He is the founder of Drishti IAS, which is Delhi-based coaching for UPSC. He is also very famous on social media due to his teaching style. The YouTube channel of Drishti IAS has more than ten million subscribers, and his videos receive millions of views every day.
His team of Drishti uploads his educational lectures on this YouTube channel. He teaches various subjects of civil service examinations, including geopolitics, religion, philosophy, science, and literature.
Divyakirti was born in a middle-class family in 1973. His parents were both Hindi professors. As a result, he completed his post-graduation, Ph.D., and M Phil in Hindi. His studies helped him attain a great command of the language and literature. His teaching career started at Delhi University, after which he cracked one of the toughest exams in the world in 1996. He became an IAS officer in his first attempt and proved to be an undoubted genius.
His first appointment placed him in the Department of Home Affairs. But within one year he realized his passion for teaching and quit his job at the prestigious Indian Administrative Service.
What is the actual controversy?
In 2018-19, Dr. Vikas published a video that went viral a few days back. In this video, he is mentioning a passage while teaching his students at Drishti. Earlier this week SadhviPrachi, an RSS leader, shared a clip of this video on Twitter. He read a quotation by Lord Ram telling Sita that he did not fight the war for her. Instead, he did that in the honor of his ancestors and family. Ram compared Sita with the dog-licked ghee in this passage, calling her unworthy.
Hundreds of Twitter users criticized him for his comments. On the other hand, his supporters mentioned that the politician knowingly quoted him out of context. Dr. Divyakirti issued a clarification on the matter. He said he only mentioned a quote from a book by a JNU professor Purushottam Agarwal, VarchasvaEvamPratirodh. He clarified that these were not his remarks. He also informed Lallantop that his family is now worried for his safety.
