MEERUT: The chronicles of life, struggles and achievements of iconic singer Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar, who passed away in Mumbai on February 6 at the age of 92, will soon be taught to students of class eight in government upper primary schools in Uttar Pradesh.
A chapter on the life of the iconic singer has been incorporated in class eight textbook, ‘Hamare Adarsh’, said Neerja Chaudhary, senior teacher at upper primary school in Lalsana in Rajpura block of Meerut district. Chaudhary added, “Our students will now take inspiration from her life.”
Pushpa Yadav, head master of another primary school in Rajpura said, “We have also set up a library in memory of Lata Mangeshkar in our school premises which has over 2,500 books. Many of these books are related to the legendary singer’s life and her struggles and others are on different subjects, including elementary arithmetic and science, elementary Hindi and English.”
Yadav added, “Lata Mangeshkar was fluent in more than 14 languages. She has sung over 50,000 songs in 20 different languages. Her name is inscribed in Guinness Book of World Records for the same. Her entire life is a source of inspiration which we wanted to share with the students. So, we set up a library in her name in the school.”
However, did you know the singer had attended school for just a day? That did not prove a hurdle for her in establishing one of the greatest legacies that the nation has seen.
