J Jayalalithaa refused to go abroad for treatment: V K Sasikala | Chennai News

CHENNAI: V K Sasikala, close confidante of J Jayalalithaa, on Friday said there was nothing to hide regarding the former chief minister’s death. “Doctors asked her to go abroad. We all wished to take her abroad. She said no, citing good medical treatment here,” Sasikala told reporters after taking part in Christmas celebrations in the city.
Sasikala said adversities and difficulties were not new to Jayalalithaa and her, and that they had faced all of them like two lionesses. “(Former DMK chief) Karunanidhi caused us so much trouble, but we faced them and achieved many things for the people of the state,” she said, adding that the AIADMK factions would unite ahead of the general elections in 2024.

Jaya refused to go abroad for treatment, says Sasikala

In her sworn affidavit submitted to Justice A Arumughaswamy commission from Bengaluru prison, upon being convicted and sentenced in the disproportionate assets case, Sasikala had said that no matter how many requests she made after Jayalalithaa was shifted to a separate room, the former AIADMK supremo did not agree to go abroad for further treatment.
“All she said was Chennai is a medical hub and there was no treatment that was not available here. She asked for doctors to be brought from outside. There was improvement (in her health) and she was watching television that day, Sasikala said, adding that Jayalalithaa was speaking well to everyone.
“It is wrong. Those who want to do politics out of Amma’s death are doing this,” she said, rejecting the charges that the late chief minister died on December 4 and not on December 5.
Sasikala said Jayalalithaa and she had decided to go home on December 19. Before, in her affidavit , she mentioned that Jayalalithaa decided to get discharged and leave for her Poes Garden residence on December 29, an auspicious day and doctors too agreed).
“Amma was very affectionate towards the nurses. She said gifts should be presented to all and told me to order. We invited the jeweller and she herself chose the earrings for them and bangles for the doctors. We even talked about the number of pieces to be delivered by December 15 and distributed by her,” Sasikala said.
On the treatment extended to Jayalalithaa, she said there was nothing to hide. “Are AIIMS doctors under our control? They are under the control of the Union government,” she said. A team of doctors from AIIMS, private and government hospitals gave statements every day, about her health.
