3 months since flight got cancelled, but no refund yet in Gujarat | Ahmedabad News

AHMEDABAD: Lured by an advertisement of VietJet flight, Ahmedabad-based advocate, Amal Dave, and his wife, booked a flight ticket in July for a trip to Vietnam for his Diwali holidays. He was scheduled to fly by a VietJet flight to Hanoi, Vietnam on October 21 this year from Mumbai. But in an apathetic turn of events on part of the airline, Dave‘s flight was cancelled due to operational reasons.
“I received the email from the flight booking aggregator, EaseMyTrip that the flight has been cancelled on September 6. Since the airline had cancelled the booking by themselves, I was entitled for a full refund of Rs 33,677. However, despite a slew of follow-ups both with EaseMyTrip and the airline, I am yet to get a refund of my fare or even a credit note,” said Dave.
A distressed Dave also lodged a complaint before the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) as well as the public grievance department of the ministry of civil aviation, earlier this week. An email query sent to VietJet went unanswered. Dave alleged that the airline, in its advertisement opened bookings for a daily flight but the flight was actually operational for four days a week and as a result, the flight was cancelled.
Even tour operators have complained that several customers who have cancelled flights are yet to get their refunds. Virendra Shah, chairman, Travel Agents’ Association of India (TAAI) Gujarat, said, “We have come across several passengers whose refunds have stuck up with the airline. Upon checking, we only learnt that the airline issues credit notes to customers.”
In many cases, passengers have not even received credit notes that can be encashed for future bookings.
