Worrying: March broke all heat records, temperature 1.68 degrees higher, rapidly warming earth

According to the latest report of Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), these rising temperature figures confirm that the Earth is warming rapidly and its effects are being felt all over the world.

March has broken all previous records of rising temperatures. If compared to the pre-industrial period, the average temperature of March this year is 1.68 degrees Celsius higher than the average temperature recorded in March between 1850 and 1900.

According to the latest report of Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), these rising temperature figures confirm that the Earth is warming rapidly and its effects are being felt all over the world. The global average near-surface air temperature during March was recorded at 14.14 degrees Celsius (dec.). This is 0.73 higher than the average temperature recorded in March during 1991 to 2020.

Temperature increased by 0.10 degrees Celsius in eight years

Earlier the hottest March was recorded in the year 2016. March temperatures in 2024 are 0.10 degrees Celsius higher than in 2016. According to the data of the Meteorological Department, earlier January and February 2024 had also made a record of rising temperature. The temperature in January will be 1.66 degrees Celsius above normal and the temperature in February 2024 will also be 1.4 degrees Celsius above the average temperature of February in the 20th century. It was more.

Effects of climate crisis deepening due to rising temperatures

According to Copernicus Climate Change Service, the effects of the climate crisis are deepening due to continuously rising temperatures. This is the 10th consecutive month since June 2023 when rising temperatures have set a new record. If we look at the temperature of the last 12 months i.e. April 2023 to March 2024, it has been recorded 0.70 degrees more than the global average temperature from 1991 to 2020.

There is a great need for immediate reduction in greenhouse gases.

Samantha Burgess, deputy director of the Copernicus Climate Change Service, says March 2024 will be the tenth consecutive month in which air and ocean temperatures have reached record levels. If we look at the average temperature in the last 12 months, it is 1.58 degrees Celsius higher than before the industrial era. In such a situation, we need to immediately reduce greenhouse gases to stop rising temperatures.

Sea ice accumulation in Arctic at lowest level of the year

According to C3S, the ice accumulated at the poles is continuously melting due to extreme temperatures. Sea ice accumulation in the Arctic reached its lowest level of the year in March. Its monthly average expansion was recorded at 1.49 crore square kilometers which is less than normal. The extent of sea ice recorded in March 2024 is about 25 percent less than in the 1980s and 1990s.
