Many celebrities including Venkaiah Naidu honored with Padma awards; President Murmu gave awards

President Draupadi Murmu honored former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and other dignitaries with Padma awards at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday. President Murmu honored Venkaiah Naidu with Padma Vibhushan. Apart from this, Bindeshwar Pathak, founder of Sulabh International, was posthumously awarded Padma Vibhushan. Actor Mithun Chakraborty, former governor Ram Naik, singer Usha Uthup and industrialist Sitaram Jindal were awarded the Padma BhushanNearly half the winners were presented with awards on Monday. The remaining awards are likely to be given next week. The ceremony was attended by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and others were present

Padma awards are given in three categories

Padma Awards, one of the country’s highest civilian honours, are given in three categories. These include Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. Awards are given in various subjects or fields. These include arts, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil services etc.

Announcement is made on the eve of Republic Day

Padma Vibhushan is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service, Padma Bhushan for distinguished service of high order and Padma Shri for distinguished service in any field. The awards are announced every year on the eve of Republic Day.

This year so many people were honored

The President had announced 132 Padma awards for 2024, including two couple cases (the award is counted as one). The 32 Padma awards include five Padma Vibhushan, 17 Padma Bhushan and 110 Padma Shri awards. 30 of the winners are women. Along with this, eight people from foreign, NRI, PIO, OCI category and nine posthumous award winners are also included in the list
