An Indian man gets 20 years in jail in Singapore for murder

A married man of Indian origin in Singapore has been sentenced to 20 years in jail. Actually, the man was sentenced to this punishment for the culpable homicide of his girlfriend. M Krishnan himself was married, but could not digest the fact of his girlfriend having relations with other men. When he learned this, he punched and kicked 40-year-old Mallika Begum Rehmansa Abdul Rehman, leading to her death on January 17, 2019. The 40-year-old man had confessed to his crime in the High Court last week. Let us tell you, his punishment was before the date of his arrest.

Justice Valerie Thyne said Krishnan had promised he would become a reformed man in 2018 (for another offense of misconduct with police officers), but he continued to abuse his wife and girlfriend. During the sentencing, the justice also said that the man had an anger disorder. Alcohol further encouraged this trend. Justice Thein said that even though he had learned about the disorder after the crime, he still felt very angry. Saying that it could not ignore his repeated domestic abuse against women, the court sentenced Krishnan to 20 years in prison. Notably, the maximum punishment for culpable homicide is life imprisonment and caning, or imprisonment up to 20 years and fine or caning.

this is the case

In November 2015, Krishnan’s wife caught him and his girlfriend drinking alcohol in the bedroom. Feeling upset, he scolded Krishnan very harshly. The man became enraged at this and slapped her hard on the face. Not only this, later he also picked up a bottle of whiskey. The wife got nervous at this and apologized. Later this matter went after the police.

However, the matter did not stop there. After this, Krishnan’s anger increased further. In 2017, he hit his girlfriend over some small issue. According to a report, the abuse intensified in early 2019 after Mallika admitted to having sexual relations with multiple men. In fact, when both of them were drinking alcohol together in the apartment on January 15, 2019, Mallika confessed to cheating. Krishnan got enraged at this and beat him severely. When the woman pleaded with the man not to hit her, he grabbed her by the neck and pushed her, causing her to fall and hit her head on the cupboard. She got up, staggered into the kitchen and fell in front of a cupboard. On this Krishnan asked her to get up and when she did not get up, he hit her forehead against the wall.

Called girlfriend’s sister

The next day Mallika was treated in the hospital. During this time Krishnan drank alcohol the whole day. At night he spoke to Mallika’s sister on phone and told her about her relationship with another man. The man’s anger did not subside here and he hit Mallika again. Slapped her face, grabbed her hair and slapped and kicked her. Beat her until she died. When Mallika fell on the ground, Krishnan made her lie down on the bed. Later realized that she was not breathing.

multiple bruises

She then called the Singapore Civil Defense Force at around 1:35 am and the police later declared Mallika dead. When the post-mortem of the body was done, it was revealed that death was due to head injury. There were multiple injury marks on his skull, back of the neck, face and around the body. Many of his ribs were also broken. During the sentencing hearing on tuesday, Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Timothy Koh told the court that Krishnan had asked a friend to let him sleep at his apartment after the attack. Krishnan surrendered himself to the police on the afternoon of January 17, 2019.
