Unable To Find Place BJP GOV For Memorial Of Former PM Debate Congress Party Today, The recent passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Singh has sparked a political debate concerning the location of his funeral and the establishment of a memorial in his honor.

The Congress Party has expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s decision to conduct Dr. Singh’s last rites at Nigambodh Ghat, arguing that this location is unsuitable for a leader of his stature. They advocate for a memorial at a prominent site, such as Raj Ghat, in line with traditions for former Prime Ministers. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge emphasized the need for a memorial at the funeral site, reflecting Dr. Singh’s significant contributions to the nation.

BJP’s Response:

In response, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Congress of politicizing the issue. They reference past instances where the Congress allegedly neglected to honor prominent leaders appropriately, suggesting a pattern of behavior. BJP spokespersons have highlighted the absence of a memorial for former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao as an example of such neglect.

Government’s Decision:

Amidst the controversy, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced that space would be allocated for a memorial dedicated to Dr. Manmohan Singh. Union Home Minister Amit Shah communicated this decision to Dr. Singh’s family, indicating that while the memorial space will be provided, the formation of a Trust is required, which may take time.

Public and Political Reactions:

The debate has elicited reactions from various political entities. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) criticized the government’s initial decision regarding the funeral site, deeming it disrespectful to Dr. Singh’s legacy. Conversely, some political figures have cautioned against politicizing the matter, urging respect and decorum during this period of mourning.

Dr. Manmohan Singh, who passed away at the age of 92, served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014 and was instrumental in implementing economic reforms that significantly impacted the country’s development. His funeral is scheduled to take place with full state honors.
