Lip balms may help you make your lips smoother. But, there are numerous other ways you can try at your home to cure dry and chapped lips.
You can face the problem of dry lips at any time of the year. In winters, they become dry due to cold weather, and in summer, they become tanned due to harsh sun rays. Also, the chemicals in cosmetic products can cause your lips to peel and crack.
There are various methods that you can try at home to cure dry and chapped lips. Let us see some of them.
The skin of dried and chapped lips can lift and flake. So you should gently exfoliate your lips regularly to remove dead skin cells. It allows the lip balm to reach the fresh skin below flaky patches and hydrate it.
2. Apply coconut oil
Unlike the skin of the rest of your body, lips have a tender barrier function. It means that they are more vulnerable to external factors than other portions of your body. These external factors may include cold temperature, heat, and wind. You can apply the coconut oil to your dried lips and keep it all day or as required. Clean your finger before applying the oil to your lips, or you can use a cotton swab.
3. Apply aloe Vera gel
Aloe Vera gel is rich in nutrients and has numerous applications. Mostly people use it as a sunburn remedy, but you can use it for other purposes as well. Its relaxing and anti-inflammatory properties make it a foolproof cure for cracked lips.
You can purchase organic Aloe Vera that comes in the form of gel from the market. However, it is better to use it fresh taken directly from the leaf of the Aloe plant. To do so, you need to pluck a leaf, peel it and extract out all its gel. Store it in a container and apply it to your lips using your fingertips.
The aloe Vera enzymes have mild exfoliating properties. So you should use it only two to three times a day.
4. Use petroleum jelly
Waxes oils and petroleum Jelly do not seal in water. Also, it’s cheap and easy to get in the market. You can purchase it both online and offline from any drugstore.
If there is tanning on your lips due to sunburn, you would have to choose another product. As per the AAD, petroleum Jelly traps in the heat of sunburns.
