Mitali Express is the third train to start on the India-Bangladesh route. This passenger train service will start on June 1 from New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal to Bangladesh’s Dhaka cantonment. It will enhance trans-national railway connectivity.
The Railway Ministers of Bangladesh and India will flag off the service virtually from Rail Bhawan, Delhi on June 1. The Chief Public Relations Officer, NE Frontier Railway said, the train will run twice a week on Wednesday and Sunday. It will start at 11:45 AM from New Jalpaiguri, West Bengal.
The officials said passenger train services between Bangladesh and India would start again from May 29. The train service between Kolkata and Bangladesh is on suspension since March 2020 due to COVID-19 protocols.

Daily service the train will depart from the New Jalpaiguri at 11:45 am and arrive at Haldibari at 12:55 pm. The departure from Haldibari will be at 13:05 hours (IST). It will then arrive in Bangladesh at Chilahati at 13:55 hours (BST) and start from here at 14.25 hours (BST). Sabyasachi De mentioned that it will arrive at Dhaka Cantonment at 22.30 hours (BST).
He also stated that the train will not stop anywhere for commercial purposes. It will have four First Class AC coaches (seating only), two luggage-generator carts, and 4 AC chair cars.

Its return journey will be from Dhaka Cantonment, Bangladesh, to New Jalpaiguri. Here also, it will run twice a week on Thursday and Monday. Mitali Express will leave Dhaka Cantonment at 21.50 hours (BST) and reach Chilahati at 5:45 am (BST). It will again leave Chilahati at 6:15 am (BST) and reach Haldibari at 6.00 hours (IST). From Haldibari, it will start at 6:05 am (IST) and arrive at New Jalpaiguri at 7:15 am (IST).
This train will have four sleepers-First Class AC coaches, two luggage-generator carts, and four AC Chair Cars. The CPRO further said that people can book tickets for this train at counters of the overseas Passenger Reservation System. These counters are present at Kolkata Railway Station and New Jalpaiguri Railway Station.
