Electricity theft report against SP MP Burke, Recent reports indicate that the Uttar Pradesh electricity department has initiated an investigation into potential electricity theft at the residence of Samajwadi Party (SP) Member of Parliament (MP) Ziaur Rahman Barq in Sambhal. During a recent inspection, officials discovered discrepancies in the electricity consumption recorded by the meters installed at his residence. Notably, for several months, the bills showed zero or minimal consumption, which raised suspicions of tampering or unauthorized usage.
In response, the department has replaced the old meters with new smart meters to ensure accurate monitoring and prevent any future irregularities. The old meters have been sealed and sent to a laboratory for detailed examination to determine the extent of the alleged tampering.
This action follows Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s directive to curb electricity theft and illegal connections in the state. The administration is intensifying its efforts to detect and prevent such activities, aiming to ensure fair usage and billing of electricity across all sectors.
