Cars that were exported the most from India in 2021-22

 

In FY22, the export of passenger vehicles from India reached 43% to 5.77 lakh units. In FY21, it was 4.04 lakh units.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited emerged as the leader in car exports from India for the fiscal year of 2021-22. The second comes Hyundai Motor India followed by Kia India in the third position.

The overall export of passenger vehicles from India grew to 5.77 lakh units. The topmost model to be exported from India is the Maruti Suzuki’s Dzire. It showed a growth of more than 300% compared to the last fiscal year. In FY21, this car did not even make into the list of top 10 cars exported from India. Baleno and Swift come next in the row. In the previous year, Baleno was in 9th position, and Swift was not even on the list.

Maruti Suzuki started exporting vehicles in 1986. The company sent its first consignment to Hungary with five hundred cars in September 1987.

At present, it has export services in more than 100 countries. The top export markets of Maruti are Africa, the Middle East, ASEAN, its neighboring countries, and Latin America.

Last year the company had only two models on the list, namely Baleno and S-Presso. This year the number has gone up to 4 grabbing the first three positions in its name.

The senior officials of Maruti Suzuki India noted that they made a record export of 238,376 units last year. Hyundai comes at the second spot with its Grand i10 hatchback, Creta SUV, and Verna sedan. However, exports of Verna declined this year. But, the remaining two models showed significant growth.

The best-selling Seltos model of Kia India also made a spot among the top 5 cars in FY22. Though it came at number 9, its exports declined by 1.3% since last year.

Volkswagen Vento and Nissan Sunny also made it to the list of top ten cars exported from India. The exports of Vento sedan saw a growth of 22.4%. It occupied the sixth position for the second consecutive term. The shipments of Sunny sedan also grew by 4.1% from the previous fiscal year. But, it has dropped to number five in FY22 from number eight in FY21.

The EcoSport model of Ford was the leading car on the export list during FY21. But, this year it was nowhere visible in the tally. Its exports declined to 15,382 units from 39,750 in the fiscal year 2021. Due to a 61.3% of a year-on-year decline, Ford India stopped its vehicle manufacturing in September 2021 in India.

Chevrolet Beat is another loser in the market. It was in the fourth position in 2021. But, it could not make it this time. Its exports came down to zero this year from a significant number of 28,619 units in 2021. Due to this drop-down, its parent company General Motors exited India in 2017. It was using its manufacturing unit at Talegaon to export cars till 2020. But since then, it is nonfunctional
