Behind this successful Gujarat MLA there are two women — his wives | Vadodara News

VADODARA: There is a woman behind every successful man, they say. But when someone has the backing of two trusted women, like this tribal debutant MLA from Dediapada, how can success ever fail him? Meet Chaitar Vasava, the only AAP candidate to have won in the south Gujarat tribal belt, who has two wives and whole family not only stays together but also works as a team.
“My wives worked as a team and helped me immensely in my victory. They worked tirelessly and managed many things while I was away campaigning,” Vasava, who created history by winning in Dediapada – a tribal seat – by nearly 40,000 votes, told TOI.
Once a popular Bhartiya Tribal Party (BTP) leader in his region, Vasava quit the party to contest polls on an AAP ticket. Vasava’s campaign did not see any star campaigner unlike his rivals, BJP and Congress. Vasava began working for the tribal community over a decade ago and had joined BTP in 2014. He played a key role in the win of BTP chief Chhotu Vasava’s son Mahesh in Dediapada.
“I had a government job and my wives too were employed in government entities. But I decided to quit my job to work for the welfare of tribals,” the resident of Bogaj village in Dediapada said. Shakuntala and Varsha quit their jobs later and began supporting Vasava’s political ambition over the last few years. Shakuntala was chairman of district panchayat in Dediapada and was even jailed a couple of times for staging demonstrations to support tribal women.
Vasava married Shakuntala about 13 years ago and married Varsha two years later. “All three of us studied together and Shakuntala and Varsha have always been good friends. We all stay together as a happy family. I have one child from Shakuntala and two from Varsha,” said the 34-year-old father of three.
“We have worked hard for the past two months to ensure his (Vasava’s) win. I have participated in many meetings organized ahead of the assembly elections to chalk out our campaign plans,” Shakuntala Vasava said. Varsha too echoed Shakuntala’s sentiments and said she will always support her husband.
